Guruu is redefining how people share knowledge.
For Guruus, it’s a flexible way to earn — you can teach from anywhere, set your own prices, and choose who you work with. Creating an account is free, so if you have expertise to share, why not get started?
For Learners, it’s simple and safe. Find trusted experts, book instantly, and learn through Guruu’s built-in video platform — no travel, no strangers in your home, just convenient one-on-one learning made accessible to everyone.
Anyone can use Guruu to learn something new.
There's no minimum age for learners, but users under 18 must have their accounts created and managed by a parent or guardian.
To become a Guruu (service provider), you must be at least 15 years old, and if you're under 18, your parent or guardian manages your account.
Learn more in our Younger Users Policy.
We're committed to keeping Guruu inclusive and discrimination-free. Read our Community Standards for more information.
Creating a profile is free and easy:
All payments are handled securely through Stripe, and Guruu never stores credit card details.
People under 18 can't legally enter binding contracts, which is why a parent or legal guardian must create and manage the account.
You can find full details and setup instructions in our Younger Users Policy.
We take the safety of young users seriously. Guruu provides:
Parents are encouraged to read our Community Standards for full details on acceptable use and child safety.
Yes. Guruu uses secure technology to protect your data. We do not sell or share your personal information for marketing.
Read our full Privacy Policy for details on data use and protection.
Yes. Log in and go to Settings to update your information or password.
For accounts managed by parents or guardians, some details (like date of birth) can't be changed directly.
All sessions are automatically recorded for your safety and reference.
Recordings can be downloaded from your dashboard shortly after a session ends. We recommend saving them locally, as Guruu may delete older videos to manage storage.
Recordings cannot be shared publicly without written consent from all participants, except where a parent or guardian reviews a child's session. Breaching this policy may result in suspension or legal action.
See our Community Standards for more information.
Yes. Guruu contacts users via email from official @guruu.co addresses (e.g. noreply@guruu.co) and via in-app messages.
If you ever receive an unexpected message, check that it comes from an official @guruu.co address before taking action.
Your account security is our priority.
If you're unsure about an email:
Both learners and Guruus can cancel a booking, but each Guruu sets their own cancellation policy, displayed on their profile before booking.
For full details, see our Payment Policy.
We strongly discourage it.
When users work outside the platform, they lose Guruu's payment protection, dispute support, and review system.
By staying within Guruu, both parties benefit from secure transactions, transparent communication, and reputation-building tools that protect everyone involved.
If something goes wrong, Guruu can help mediate — but payment disputes are only allowed under specific circumstances.
Simply being unhappy with a session is not a valid reason to withhold payment. Instead, leave an honest review to help others make informed choices.
You can only dispute payment if:
All disputes are reviewed case-by-case. Guruu may review communication records or recordings to determine a fair outcome.
Our mediation decisions are final.
Guruu is a user-funded platform.
We charge a small service fee to learners and a commission from Guruus.
This supports platform maintenance, technology improvements, and secure payment processing for all users.

Guruu welcomes learners of all ages. However, because people under 18 are not legally able to enter binding contracts, there are special rules for how younger users participate on our platform.
Booking a Guruu or becoming one involves forming a contract. To protect both learners and teachers, every account for a person under 18 must be created and managed by a parent or legal guardian.
There is no minimum age for learning on Guruu. Many school-age children use the platform for tutoring and skill development.
A parent or guardian must create and manage the account, approve each booking, and remain responsible for compliance with our Terms of Use and Community Standards.
Users aged 15 years or older may offer services as a Guruu, but their account must still be created and managed by a parent or guardian.
This reflects employment and contract laws in countries such as Australia, which set minimum ages for paid work. The guardian acts as the legal contracting party for the account.
Setting up an account for someone under 18 is simple.
The parent or guardian must first create their own Guruu account, then add the younger user as a linked member.
Steps:
Go to Settings (top right-hand corner).
Tap Family Sharing, then select Add Member.
Choose Create an Account for a Child and follow the on-screen prompts.
Enter the young user’s name, email, and date of birth (this cannot be changed later).
While the user remains under 18:
The parent or guardian will receive copies of all correspondence.
They will have full access to the child’s account, including session history and recordings.
Guruu is designed to support learning, not replace it.
Allowed:
Tutoring, guidance, concept explanations, and skill-building support.
Not Allowed:
Asking Guruus to complete homework, write assignments, or sit tests on the learner’s behalf.
Please review our Community Standards and Terms of Use for full details on acceptable use.
Parents or guardians should select tutors who specifically indicate they work with children.
Some Guruus hold official Working With Children or background-check clearances (for example, qualified teachers). Parents are encouraged to confirm this directly with the Guruu before booking.
Guruu does not provide real-time monitoring of sessions.
However:
All video sessions are automatically recorded.
Recordings are available within approximately 15 minutes of completion.
Parents or guardians can access and review these recordings through the child’s dashboard without breaching Guruu’s Privacy Policy.
Guruu has strict policies for any content that features, targets, or involves minors.
We take reports of inappropriate behaviour seriously and will investigate immediately.
If you see or experience anything concerning, please report it to help@guruu.co.

Learners may cancel sessions in accordance with the Guruu’s chosen cancellation policy.
If a Learner misses a session without notice, the full payment may be released to the Guruu.
Refunds are processed according to Guruu’s Payment Policy and applicable consumer laws.
Guruu uses Twilio and other third-party tools to deliver video conferencing and messaging services.
While we strive for uninterrupted access, technical issues can occur due to factors outside Guruu’s control, including:
internet outages, device or hardware failure,
third-party service interruptions (e.g., Twilio downtime), or
events of force majeure (e.g., power outages, natural disasters).
Guruu is not responsible for loss of service, earnings, or data due to such disruptions.
If a session is materially affected by a verified technical issue not caused by the Learner or Guruu, Guruu will review the case.
Guruus agree that in such circumstances, they will either:
Re-run the session at no additional cost to the Learner, or
Offer a refund, as determined by Guruu’s discretion.
Repeated technical issues or failure to accommodate affected Learners may result in account review or suspension.
Learners can review and rate Guruus after sessions.
Reviews must be honest, respectful, and compliant with our Community Standards.

Violations may result in suspension, removal, or legal action.

Dispute, Payout, Refund & Tax Policy
Last updated: 17 October 2025
This Policy forms part of the Terms of Service of Guruu (“the Platform,” “we,” “our,” or “us”). It explains how payments, booking fees, disputes, refunds, and taxes are handled for transactions processed through Stripe, our third-party payment provider.
1. Payment Handling
All payments are processed securely through Stripe. When a Buyer books a Service, the full amount is charged immediately and held in temporary escrow by Stripe on behalf of the Platform.
Funds are not automatically paid to the Service Provider upon booking. They remain on hold until one of the following occurs:
2. Platform Commission, Booking Fee & Processing Fees
For each confirmed booking:
Accordingly, the Service Provider receives the net amount after deduction of the Platform’s commission, card-processing fees, and any applicable taxes.
3. Buyer Review Period
After a Service is completed, the Buyer has a [3- to 5-day] review period to confirm or dispute the transaction.
4. Internal Dispute Resolution
Disputes must be submitted through the Platform’s dispute function within the review period. The Platform will assess relevant materials (communications, proof of delivery, cancellation terms, etc.) and make a good-faith determination.
The Platform’s internal decision is final for Platform purposes. Buyers retain the right to initiate a formal card-network dispute (chargeback) through their issuing bank (see Section 5).
5. Card Disputes and Chargebacks
If a Buyer’s bank reverses a payment:
6. Refunds
Refunds are evaluated case-by-case.
If a refund is approved, it will be processed for the amount received less any non-refundable processing fees and the USD $3.00 booking fee incurred at the time of payment. Stripe does not return processing fees on refunded transactions; therefore, those costs are retained by the Platform.
Where applicable, the Platform’s commission may also be retained to cover administrative and gateway costs.
Example: If you paid USD $100.00 and card fees totaled USD $3.20, your refund would be USD $96.80.
7. Cancellation by Service Provider
If the Service Provider cancels a confirmed booking for any reason, the Buyer will receive a full refund, including the booking fee and any card-processing costs.
The Platform may apply penalties or account restrictions to Service Providers who cancel confirmed bookings.
8. Cancellation by Buyer
If the Buyer cancels a booking:
9. Taxes
The Platform may be required by law to collect and remit applicable taxes (including but not limited to sales tax, GST, or VAT) once statutory thresholds are met.
Any such taxes collected are held on behalf of the relevant tax authority and are not Platform revenue.
The Platform reserves the right to:
10. Fraud and Unauthorized Payments
Stripe provides card verification, 3-D Secure authentication, and fraud-screening tools (Radar). While these measures reduce risk, no system guarantees absolute protection.
The Platform is not liable for fraudulent or unauthorized card use beyond the protections offered by Stripe and the card networks.
11. Finality of Payouts
Once funds are released to a Service Provider and the Buyer’s review period has expired, the transaction is considered final unless reversed by a valid card-network chargeback.
12. Acceptance
By using the Platform, Buyers and Service Providers acknowledge and agree to this Dispute, Payout, Refund & Tax Policy, which forms part of the Platform’s Terms of Service.
For any payment issues, contact help@guruu.co.
